Fairview Health Services Has Expanded its Partnership with the University of Minnesota and UMPhysicians

Fairview Health Services, a Minneapolis, Minnesota based non-profit integrated health system that serves patients across the state of Minnesota, has renewed and expanded its academic and strategic partnership with the University of Minnesota and University of Minnesota Physicians to create a nationally renowned academic health system. The agreement expands the organizations’ current University of Minnesota Health partnership centered at the University of Minnesota Medical Center (“UMMC”) along with the 11 other hospitals throughout the State to deliver care for the patients of Minnesota under a single brand, M Health Fairview.
The parties’ have had a longstanding relationship. Fairview Health Services entered into a collaboration with UMMC in 1996 and established an integrated operating model in 2013 to bring the academic and clinical enterprises together. The M Health Fairview partnership expansion redefines the relationship to bring together the hospitals, primary care clinics and other services that is led by academic physicians into a shared care delivery system.
The agreement will take effect on January 1, 2019 and will continue through December 31, 2026, with an option for a 10-year extension in 2023. The partnership will create tighter operational alignment to simplify the care experience for patients, have a focus on leading research, education and patient care aimed at discovering new approaches to improving health—from primary care through complex and hospital care, and provide for increased financial support for the University of Minnesota Medical School.
